When will Christ return?
The false teachers whom Peter addressed believed that Jesus would not return. After all, many years had passed, and they had expected Him to return quickly. Because of this, they thought that He would not come at all.
Peter addresses this in his second epistle. He tells us that God’s timing is not the same as ours. With Him, “one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day” (2 Peter 3:8). God is the Creator of time, space, and matter. He does not view time in the same way we do; He is eternal.
As a result, we should not try to force God into our own timetable, though we often attempt to do so. God cannot be limited, and in His omniscience, He knows the perfect time for Jesus’s return.
More than God’s timing being different from ours, His patience is on full display as Jesus waits to return. The longer He waits, the more people will come to salvation. It is His divine mercy that delays His second coming. Because of this, we ought to give glory to God.
