In Exodus 9, the plagues come with ever increasing intensity. In the fifth plague, Pharaoh’s livestock all die. After this, the Egyptians are struck with festering boils upon their skin. Yet Pharaoh continues to resist the Lord. The seventh plague brings a devastating hail that destroys everything in its path. Finally, after this plague, Pharaoh appears to give in. But his heart is still hard as he again changes his mind and rejects the demands of Moses.
