In the beginning everything was good. However, rather than trusting God’s goodness, man decided for himself what was good and disobeyed God’s one command. This disobedience resulted in a broken relationship with God. But God promised redemption; He promised to provide.
In this concluding chapter of Genesis, we see God’s provision again. Now that Jacob had died, Joseph’s brothers feared for their lives. But Joseph trusted God. Despite the evil that Joseph’s brothers intended, God brought about good for the salvation of many. Not only did God deliver Joseph’s family from the famine, but through this deliverance He preserved the line of Judah, from which Jesus would be born.
