In John 16, the time of Jesus’ crucifixion draws near. Because of this, Jesus continues to warn his disciples about coming persecution. He encourages them not to fear, urging them to stay strong in their faith. In this passage, Jesus warns them that he would be going away. The disciples needed to be ready for what was about to happen. They needed to know that the world hated Jesus, and so it would hate them as well. But despite persecution and hardship, Jesus reminds them of the help of the Holy Spirit who would come after his departure.
