Life has always been gift and grace. The more we see of Jesus, the more we realize that we have fallen short. We have no way of reaching Him on our own. But this perspective enables us to see that His grace is even bigger than we thought. John 21 demonstrates this truth to us. After the resurrection, the disciples have returned to their fishing. This is reminiscent of Luke 5:2–11, in which the disciples caught nothing until Jesus came along, and then He called them to become fishers of men. In this passage as well Jesus comes and serves the disciples. He guides them not only in their fishing but also in their relationship with Him. We see this through His love for Peter, reaffirming Peter after he had denied Him three times. It is Jesus’ love that guides us in everything that we do. He ought to be the focus of our days, to the praise of His glorious grace.
