Exodus 19 gives an awesome portrait of the character of God.

The Israelites have finally reached Mount Sinai, nearly a year after their exodus from Egypt. Here the Lord is about to mandate certain standards and requirements for Israel to live by. But He wants them to know that this is not a mere fiat of His will. It is actually for their good. His desire is for them to obey and walk in His ways so that they will be His own possession (verse 5).

By preparing the Israelites to receive His law, God begins to make His covenant with Moses and Israel—a covenant that not only fulfills a portion of God’s covenant with Abraham but also points to the new covenant that would come in Jesus Christ.
