Question: What are the differences in the two genealogies of Jesus found in Matthew and Luke?

This article from bible.org summarizes the differences between the genealogies in Matthew and Luke. In short, the two genealogies do not contradict each other but, rather, give two different ancestries:

  1. The genealogy of Jesus through Joseph (in Matthew), since Joseph was the legal, though not the physical, earthly father of Jesus; and
  2. The ancestry of Jesus through Mary (in Luke), as the record of Jesus’ physical descent.
