When you wake up in the morning, what is the first thing you think about the upcoming day?

Proverbs 3:5–6 tells us what our daily perspective ought to be: “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight” (NASB).

This text invites us to begin each day by trusting in God. We must trust Him with all of our being, growing in that trust day by day. This trust is exclusive; we cannot rely on our own strength but must surrender ourselves to God.

One big mistake we tend to make is dividing out the sacred and secular moments of each day. But the Word of God does not allow for this divide. Instead, we must trust God with all of our daily activities. This includes those activities which we view as spiritual (such as prayer) as well as those which we view as secular (such as our jobs).

Trusting in God means clinging to His promise that He is working all things for our good (Romans 8:28). He has our best interest at heart. God is also sovereign; He is in control of all things.

This integrated view recognizes that God redeems what He allows in every area of our life. From the beginning of the day to its end, God is at work and will accomplish His plans. For these reasons, we can surrender our schedules to Him.
