How do you share the Gospel with someone who has never heard it? One approach is to appeal to our inherent need to pursue happiness, fulfillment, and ultimately rest. King Solomon touched on the reason for our pursuit of these things when he wrote that God “has made everything appropriate in its time. He has also set eternity in their heart…” (Ecclesiastes 3:11 NASB). Augustine remarks “You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it rests in you” (Confessions Book 1 Chapter 1). Are we not constantly searching for something to fill what seems to be an infinite hole in our hearts? It seems that nothing gives us rest. Finite goods won’t do the trick. The truth of the Gospel is that we can only find rest in the infinite God of the universe.
