How do you begin and end each day? It matters.

When we wake up or go to bed stressed and worried, we tend to lose sight of our relationship with God. We need to spend these times thinking God’s thoughts after Him. After all, it is easy to fall into a rut in our thoughts when we focus only on ourselves. But training and habituation can create spiritual muscle memory that reminds us of our identity in Christ.

One key exercise is to pray along with Paul for a spirit of wisdom and revelation, reflecting on the riches of the glory of God’s inheritance in the saints (Ephesians 1:17–19a). Meditating on this passage puts our thought life in order, reminding us of our identity as coheirs with Christ.
