Blessed is the one who receives forgiveness from the LORD. Paul quotes Psalm 32:1–2 in Romans 4:7–8, and goes on to demonstrate that forgiveness is not of works, because it is a work of God in the one who has faith. Just as Abraham believed God and was reckoned righteous, so are we who believe in God’s provision through His Son. In this psalm, David acknowledges the truth that sin and rejection of God leads to death, but that God’s lovingkindness surrounds the one who trusts in Him. The one who enjoys the forgiveness of the LORD has cause to rejoice, to be full of gladness, and to shout for joy.
