We ought to be open to the movement and surprises of the Spirit of God. At the same time, we must have discernment. We know this because a large amount of the New Testament was written to correct errors. These often stem from false teaching. As 1 John 4:1 tells us, “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.”
One common false teaching today is the idea that when we walk by the Spirit, we will gain material blessings. This is simply not true. After all, often it seems as though the most nasty, aggressive people are the ones with the most wealth. It is essential for us to come back to the Word of God to be filled with the Spirit of truth. This will aid us in our personal relationship with God. By walking with Him, we will discern the errors of the world.
