John 13 marks a transitional point in Jesus’ ministry. Jesus had been involved in public ministry. He told the crowds following Him to believe in Him that they might have life (John 11:25). As the time of His death draws near, Jesus removes Himself from the crowds and turns to His disciples, serving them and preparing them for His departure. He would enjoy the Passover meal with His disciples, but would soon suffer as the Passover Lamb for the world.
