Early Gnostic heresies taught that all material was evil. As a result of this belief, some in the early church began to doubt the humanity of Jesus. After all, if matter is evil, how could Jesus be a physical being? Gnostics would see the incarnation as an evil. But Scripture tells us that everything God created is good. Indeed, there is nothing more central to the Christian faith than the bodily incarnation and resurrection of Jesus. It is because of Jesus coming in the flesh that we can have fellowship with God and hope of a future resurrection.
