The book of Revelation reveals massive spiritual warfare. Most of the apostles had died. Anti-Christian persecution was increasing under Roman rule. Both Jerusalem and the temple had been destroyed. John, the only remaining apostle, lived in exile on the island of Patmos. He wrote out prophetic visions that spoke not only to the people of his time, but also to us. Despite violent upheaval and uncertainty, he was able to write to the churches to have grace and peace. After all, the Lord Jesus Christ is alive and is in control. He is the one “who is and who was and who is to come” (Revelation 1:4).
