It can feel overwhelming trying to memorize Scripture. Below are some questions that can help you know how to get started.
- If you no longer had access to the Bible, what 10 passages would you want to have in your mind? As you reflect on this question, consider powerful passages that speak fundamental truths. The Pauline epistles are a good place to look.
- Who will be your memory partner(s)? It is far easier to memorize Scripture when you have someone doing it with you or holding you accountable.
- When and how often will you recite to each other? Reviewing the passages out loud will strengthen them in your mind, and setting up a specific time can encourage you to stay on top of your memorization.
No matter what passages you choose, become faithful to the process. Invite the Holy Spirit to work in you. After all, this is not an end in itself. The whole point of memorizing Scripture is to know Christ better and to be more and more conformed to His image.
